The SLS Band was born in 1982 during a Big Bear ski trip when founding members John Bodkin (guitar & lead vocals), Tom Marino (keyboards & vocals), and Mike Johnson (drums & vocals) found themselves snowed-in with nothing but some rock band instruments and a love for music. What started as a fun collaboration quickly evolved into a lasting musical journey. Shortly after the ski trip, the band welcomed legacy member Mark Ferrera (bass and vocals). After a few gigs, life happened… scattering the members across the country.
Sadly, the band faded into a fond memory.

In January 2024, Mark Ferrera called for a long overdue reunion of the group and longtime friend and former SLS Band super fan, Tom Nizetich (lead vocals). Rehearsing was a challenge this band of misfit musicians as they live in different states all over the country. Despite the distance - managing only four or five rehearsals so far - the spark is back! What sets the SLS Band apart is the band’s daring approach: Most members are playing instruments they didn’t originally know, pushing themselves musically and having a blast doing it!

Focused on the best covers from the 60’s, ’70s and ’80s, the SLS Band blends nostalgia with an invigorating sense of musicality, proving it’s never too late to make music with your close friends. (Find out more about these guys here.)
